Education and work experience:

After graduating from the University of Economics in Prague, where he majored in international trade, he briefly worked in the Czech private sector. He then pursued postgraduate studies in economics in Saarbrücken and Hamburg and held a teaching position at the University of Leipzig. In recognition of his accomplishments, he received the Young Economist of the Year award for 1998. In 2003, he joined the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs before transitioning to the Czech civil service three years later. He served as a Deputy Minister of Education for almost a year and then spent two and a half years at the Government Office – first as a deputy to the Deputy Prime Minister, then deputy to the Minister for European Affairs, and later as an adviser to Prime Minister Jan Fischer. From 2010 he worked at the General Secretariat of the Council of the European Union. Initially, he served as the head of the Cabinet of the Secretary-General of the Council and in February 2016 he became the head of the Budget, Tax and Regional Policy Directorate. From February 2017 to February 2023, he served as a member of the Bank Board of the Czech National Bank, where he assumed the position of Deputy Governor in December 2018.

Since 1 April 2023, Marek Mora has taken on the role of Deputy Minister of Finance for the Czech Republic.
